)
Dr. Marwan M. Abduljawad is the General Manager of the General Department for Sustainability at King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST). He has spearheaded initiatives that directly support Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and the Saudi Green Initiative, with a strong focus on recycling and reducing carbon emissions.
In collaboration with the Saudi Investment Recycling Company (SIRC), his department introduced plastic recycling machines at KACST. These machines helped avoid more than 8,000 kg of CO₂ emissions in 2024 and have already exceeded 11,000 kg avoided in 2025. The program also expanded to include e-waste recycling, successfully collecting over 11 kg of electronic waste in its first phase.
Beyond recycling infrastructure, Dr. Marwan has led awareness campaigns, installed more than 60 waste separation points across campus, and developed innovative platforms that calculate CO₂ emissions from waste (scope 3), motivating employees and the community to adopt sustainable practices. His leadership continues to bridge research with practical sustainability solutions, creating measurable environmental impact and positioning KACST as a model for recycling and waste management in the Kingdom.
