Mariam Al Busaidi, PhD | Sustainability Advisor, SOHAR Port and Freezone

Dr. Mariam Al Busaidi is an accomplished sustainability and environmental governance leader with over 18 years of experience driving circular economy, recycling, and net-zero strategies . She currently serves as Sustainability Advisor at SOHAR Port and Freezone, where she leads the development of decarbonization pathways, large-scale recycling initiatives, and green hydrogen projects that position SOHAR as a regional hub for sustainable industry. She holds many titles that advance circular economy and decarbonization, she was the President of the National Program of Carbon Neutrality in 2024. In which, under her leadership, 203 national initiatives and projects were developed for the different sectors in the Sultanate of Oman.

Dr Mariam has played a key role in the establishment of national strategies that diverse form decarbonization, environmental, hydrogen and energy. The role of Dr Mariam has scaled up many national plans in green and circular economy. The latest was her role in circular economy gap report and the national strategy in waste management. 

Dr. Mariam has represented the region on global stages, including her role as the head of Oman delegation on the G20 Environment and Climate Sustainability Working Group and a member of the United Nations High-Level Political Forum, where she has advanced discussions on recycling, ESG reporting, and sustainable resource governance. She is also a member to the roaster of experts to the UNFCCC and a member to the Oman National Climate Negotiation team. Her research background in natural resource economics (PhD) and environmental governance (MSc), combined with professional certifications in ESG, Lean, and international sustainability standards, underpins her ability to bridge policy, industry, and innovation.

Through her work, Dr. Mariam continues to support the transformation of ports, free zones, and industrial ecosystems into catalysts for recycling, circular economy, and low-carbon growth — ensuring tangible impact in the gulf region.
