With over 20 years of experience in waste management and environmental protection, Irena Relic is a recognized international expert in developing and implementing large-scale waste systems, with a strong focus on circular economy solutions.

As Senior Waste Management & Institutional Specialist at Egis, she currently advises the Government of Qatar on the National Integrated Solid Waste Management Programme, encompassing PPP development for Waste-to-Energy (WtE), Material Recovery Facility (MRF), and advanced recycling systems.

Previously, she served as Head of the Minister’s Office and Senior Waste Advisor to the Minister of Environment and Energy of Croatia, where she coordinated national strategies and legislation in the fields of waste management, biodiversity, environmental protection, sustainability, and energy policy. She also oversaw environmental impact assessment procedures and the implementation of priority national projects — including regional waste management centers, the LNG terminal, radioactive waste management systems, and large-scale renewable energy developments.

As a Senior Waste Expert for the World Bank, she has contributed to strategic advisory programs on circular economy, solid waste reform, and environmental compliance across Southeast Europe.
